VENTURA, Calif. – After an extensive, months-long nationwide search, County Executive Officer Mike Powers has announced the selection of David Sasek to serve as the director of the General Services Agency. Sasek replaces Paul Grossgold who retired after 10 years of service to the County and a long military career.
The recruitment generated more than 100 possible candidates from coast to coast and ensured that the successful candidate would be the most capable choice available. The final interview included five candidates, two from other parts of the country and three internal candidates. Sasek is currently the County’s Director of Water and Sanitation, leading a staff of more than sixty employees with an annual budget exceeding $66 million.
“The General Services Agency is a critical component of our successful County government. The GSA supports services and programs in nearly all of our 26 departments. And, it is responsible for procurement, the development and maintenance of hundreds of County facilities, our fleet of vehicles and our parks,” said Powers. “We were looking for a quality candidate with the depth of experience to handle the enormous scope of responsibilities in the agency, and we’ve found that person in Dave. It’s validation of our belief that our employees are at the top of their professions.
Dave’s qualifications make him tailor-made for this important role.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Prior to joining the County in 2014, Sasek served as the Director of Facilities Services for Pepperdine University. Before that, Sasek had a military career that gave him unique qualifications for the GSA director’s positon. He served three years as the Chief Staff Officer at Naval Base Ventura County where he led a staff of more than 1,000 people responsible for environmental and facilities management; information technology services; health, safety and recreational services; police and fire protection; and airfield and port operations.
His military experience also includes a stint as Executive Officer for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia, and a Commanding Officer position with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 7 out of Gulfport, Mississippi.
“I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to bring all of my skills to bear on the County’s General Services Agency,” said Sasek. “The GSA employees are already doing award-winning work. I look forward to helping them achieve even more as we help take Ventura County into the future.” Sasek will begin his new duties in early March at a salary of $186,796.
