On Friday, March 11, 2016 at 5 p.m., the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from the 16-year-old male juvenile reporting a shooting at his residence in the 10500 block of Lavender Street. The juvenile initially reported that he was home alone when he confronted an unknown intruder that had broken into his residence.  Upon finding the subject inside, the juvenile said he armed himself with a handgun and shot several rounds at the subject. He said the subject was armed with a knife, and during the altercation the subject attacked him. The juvenile said the subject fled the residence after the shooting.

Numerous patrol officers and personnel from Ventura City Fire, including paramedics from AMR responded to the scene.  There was evidence that a shooting had occurred, but no signs anyone had been shot.  The juvenile had superficial lacerations to his arm and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Major Crimes Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.  During the interview of the juvenile, he admitted to fabricating the shooting in fear he was going to get into trouble by his parents for something he had done earlier in the day.

The juvenile was cited and released to his parents for negligently discharging a firearm and false reporting of an emergency.

No one else was injured as a result of this incident.
