On Monday, March 14, 2016 at 22:03 p.m., a Ventura police officer on patrol attempted to stop the suspect, later identified as Nicholas Dergan, 24, driving a vehicle for a moving violation in the area of Olivas Park Drive and Perkin Avenue.  The officer activated his emergency lights to initiate the traffic stop, but Dergan failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued, and proceeded to travel on several streets on the east end of the city, until Dergan entered highway 126 towards Santa Paula at Kimball Road.  He continued and exited the highway in Santa Paula.  On Hallock Drive, Dergan got out of the vehicle while it was still moving and fled on foot.  The vehicle continued and collided into a metal fence adjacent to the Santa Clara River.  Dergan fled into the river bottom.  Officers, with the assistance of a Ventura Police K-9, searched the area, but were unable to locate Dergan.  The pursuit covered a distance of approximately 15 miles, with speeds reaching a maximum of 85 to 90 mph.  During the course of the pursuit, Dergan failed to stop for several red lights. Officers were able to positively identify Dergan as the driver.  In addition to being wanted for felony evading, Dergan has two felony warrants for his arrest.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Dergan is asked to the call the Ventura Police Department at 650-8010 or the local police agency.
No citizens were injured as a result of this pursuit.
