Delano, CA – Just before 12:00 noon on Friday, March 18, 2016, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a fire in a commercial dwelling in the 1000 block of Main St. in Delano, Ca. A second structure alarm response was started by dispatchers due to the type of structure including 2 ladder trucks for safe roof operations, and a USAR rescue unit for rapid intervention from Bakersfield. Employees evacuated the building prior to the arrival of fire crews. The first arriving crew encountered smoke coming from the roof. Fire crews deployed hose lines on the roof to extinguish the fire and found that the fire had also extended into the interior wall. Firefighters removed portions of the wall and roof to extinguish the fire. The fire was controlled in approximately 45 minutes. No injuries were reported but some employees were exposed to the smoke. They were checked and released by ambulance personnel.
