Structure Fire

March 20, 2016 at 5:27 p.m., Ventura City Fire personnel responded to reported black smoke coming from the windows of a small business in the 200 block of Laurel Street. The first arriving company reported a small unoccupied storefront, part of a light-commercial / strip-mall type complex, with dark smoke exiting from around several closed windows and doors. Forcible entry was used to make access, vertical ventilation was established, utilities were controlled, and the seat of the interior fire was quickly located and extinguished using hand lines. Possible extension into concealed spaces and adjoining occupancies was ruled-out, and the fire area was thoroughly overhauled. The cause of the fire remains under investigation; no injuries were reported at the time of this release.
