ARFF 2 began its life at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. KCFD purchased the 2007 Oshkosh “Striker 4500” in 2015. ARFF 2 carries 4,500 gallons of water, 630 gallons of firefighting foam, and 500 pounds of Purple K dry chemical extinguishing agent. ARFF 2 is equipped with a 65’ Snozzle, with a penetrating nozzle and infrared camera. ARFF 2 weighs 124,000 pounds and has a 950 horsepower diesel engine capable of speeds greater than 70 mph. ARFF 2 currently has 22,000 miles on the odometer and was purchased at a cost of $610,000. Similarly equipped new models are priced beyond $1.8 million. In 2015, Fire Station 62 responded to 81 emergency calls for service. The station is staffed 24-7 with a Fire Captain and Fire Engineer. ARFF 1 and ARFF 2 respond together to aircraft emergencies that occur at Meadows Field Airport.
