Niles Street Fire

East Bakersfield, CA - At 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016, the Kern County Fire Department  received a call for a commercial structure fire in the 1800 block of Niles Street. A reinforced structure response was started by dispatchers. KCFD Fire Captain Garret Drolen was in the area servicing fire hydrants when the call went out. He arrived first on scene in a utility vehicle and alerted several occupants to evacuate. As Fire Engines and Trucks arrived, crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire and had the fire controlled in approximately 20 minutes. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD Fire Investigators.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters have responded to fires at this location in the past. The community is encouraged to contact local authorities to report illegal trespassing and squatting activities.
