Mr. Abbott, 66, from Norco, was driving a 1999 Freightliner truck pulling an empty car carrier trailer, traveling north on US-101 in the number 3 lane at an unknown speed.  Mr. Velasquez, 24, from Garden Grove, was driving a 2007 International loaded stake bed truck, traveling north on US-101 in the number 2 lane at an unknown speed.  As the International stake bed truck was passing the Freightliner, the front right side of the stake bed truck collided with the left rear side of the Freightliner car carrier trailer. This collision caused the driver of the Freightliner to lose control and collide with the center median concrete wall.  The Freightliner crashed partially through the concrete wall and overturned.  The Freightliner came to rest on its right side on the concrete wall.  The Freightliner’s trailer became detached and continued to travel northbound in the number 1 lane.  Debris from the concrete wall and Freightliner were scattered into the southbound lanes of US-101.  The International truck came to a stop, blocking the number 1 lane of northbound US-101, behind the Freightliner’s detached car carrier trailer.  A 2013 Honda Civic, traveling in the number 1 lane of southbound US-101, collided with concrete debris and was driven by Taylor Sacks, 25, a Thousand Oaks resident.  The passenger in the International truck, Jose Manuel Hernandez, 35, from Anaheim, had to be extricated by the Ventura County Fire Department and was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
Traffic lanes in both directions were blocked intermittently to clear concrete debris and to remove the overturned Freightliner from the center divider wall.  All lanes were completely cleared at 9 a.m. this morning.
