David Keith Gurrola was sworn in as Fillmore’s new Fire Chief during the Tuesday, April 12, 2016 council meeting attended by most of the Fillmore Fire Department.
Gurrola brings over 40 years of experience to the position, starting his fire career in 1975 as a Seasonal Wildland Firefighter for the United States Forest Services where he was then promoted to Fire Captain. In 1983 he began his service with the Ventura County Fire Department as a fulltime Firefighter, and was promoted throughout the years to Hazmat Inspector, Fire Captain, Fire Battalion Chief, Fire Division Chief, and Assistant Fire Chief. In 2015, he was hired as Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Santa Paula.
Gurrola has a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He has completed In-Service Fire Training from Alan Hancock, Oxnard, Los Angeles Valley and Crafton Hills Community Colleges, and has completed numerous State Fire Marshal, NWCG, FEMA, and ICS classes.
Known as “Keith” to his friends, family and colleagues, he is married, a resident of Fillmore with three children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is a member of numerous service organizations, along with youth sports boards, youth sports coach, high school football coach for 17 years, 4-H leader for 32 years, and is a current Fillmore Future Farmers of America Boosters member and Fillmore High Athletic Boosters member. Gurrola will officially start work in Fillmore Monday, April 18, 2016.
