On Friday, April 22, 2016 at 5:50 p.m., the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from a relative of a suspect, later identified as Mark Velasquez, 46, reporting that she was inside their residence in the 7300 block of Coati Place and heard a loud noise, which she thought was possibly Velasquez shooting himself.
When officers arrived on scene, they conducted a search of the residence and found Velasquez, uninjured, hiding inside of a shed in the backyard. He was detained.
During the investigation, officers discovered that Velasquez had been in possession of a firearm and negligently discharged a round, which was fired into a wall. While inside the residence, officers found a Shuriken (throwing star) and Sap, both illegal weapons. He was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and material for manufacturing concentrated cannabis.
Velasquez was booked into the Ventura County Jail for the listed violations. No was injured as a result of this incident.
