On Saturday, May 7, at 8 p.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s Headquarters station were in Saticoy looking for a subject with outstanding arrest warrants. Deputies parked their patrol units in the area of D Street and Los Angeles Avenue and began looking for the wanted subject on foot. After a short period of time, deputies received an emergency call for service in the area of Faria Beach. Deputies returned to their patrol units to find both had been extensively vandalized. An unknown suspect had broken the front windshield of one unit and smashed out the rear vehicle of the second. Several large rocks were found inside the Sheriff’s vehicles. Due to the severity of the damage, the deputies could not safely respond to the emergency at Faria Beach. Other deputies responded in their place.
Patrol deputies, area detectives and the Sheriff’s Gang Unit opened a criminal investigation which identified the vandalism suspect as Melonie Hernandez, 18.
On Thursday, May 12, 2016, Melonie was located in the 1200 block of Aster Street in Saticoy, and arrested. While being transported to the Main Jail, Melonie additionally vandalized the interior of the patrol car.
Melonie Hernandez was booked for felony vandalism, misdemeanor vandalism and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Her bail was set at $15,000. Hernandez has a scheduled court date of May 16, in court room 13.
