This afternoon, officers recovered two separate stolen vehicles in unrelated incidents.  Both recoveries involved the use of stolen vehicle tracking devices, which are installed on the patrol vehicles.

During the first incident, Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 2:03 p.m., a patrol officer was on patrol when the stolen vehicle device on his patrol vehicle started indicating a stolen vehicle was in the area.  The officer was near the intersection of Main Street and Telephone Road, and with the assistance of other officers, began checking the surrounding area.  The stolen vehicle, a 2007 Toyota pickup, was located parked and unoccupied in the parking lot of the Pointsettia Plaza in the 4700 block of Telephone Road.  Officers searched the area and contacted a subject, later identified as Darrin Sasaki, 48, of Oxnard.  He was positively identified as the driver of the vehicle and arrested.

Sasaki was booked into the Ventura County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.  The vehicle was impounded.

The second incident occurred at approximately 3:34 p.m., when another officer was on patrol in the area of Telegraph Road. and Mills Road, and the stolen vehicle device on his patrol vehicle indicated a stolen vehicle was in the area.  That officer, along with other patrol officers, began checking the area and ultimately located the stolen vehicle, a 2008 BMW sedan, near the Ventura College theater on Loma Vista Road.  The vehicle was occupied and being driven by the suspect, later identified as David Reyes,  22, of El Rio, and a female passenger.  Reyes and the female passenger were removed from the vehicle and detained.

Reyes was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle.  The female passenger was not arrested and released from the scene.  The vehicle was released back to the owner.
