Multiple Fatality Accident on Highway 126

On Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 1:30 a.m., a traffic collision  occurred westbound Highway 126 east of Center Street.
Carlos Sanchezromero, 35, driver of a 2015 Kia Optima from Los Angeles, drove wrong way eastbound Highway 126 east of Center Street in the number 1 lane of westbound 126 at an unknown speed.  Esmeralda Escobedo, 31, driver of a 2012 Toyota Camry, was traveling with a female  passenger, Maria Escobedo, 52, both of Fillmore, westbound Highway 126 east of Center Street in the number 1 lane at an unknown speed.  For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the 2015 Kia Optima drove his vehicle wrong way into the direct path of the Toyota which caused a head on collision resulting in major damage to both vehicles.  The Ventura County Fire Department responded to the scene.  Both drivers and the passenger of the Toyota sustained fatal injuries. Due to the severity of the collision both vehicles and debris temporarily blocked the roadway.
This incident resulted in the complete closure of Highway 126 for approximately four hours.  Cal Trans responded to the scene for traffic control and assisted in the closure.
