Gang Weapon Arrest

On Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 5:45 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (gang unit) were conducting uniform gang enforcement in the 300 block of Cuesta Del Mar in response to several recent shootings that have occurred in the city.  Officers observed a group of juveniles loitering in the alley.
As the officers approached the group one of the juveniles, a fourteen year-old Oxnard resident, discarded a loaded .22 caliber handgun and attempted to flee the area on foot. Officers recovered the handgun and quickly caught and detained the suspect. The suspect was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm in a public place.  The suspect is a known associate of a local Oxnard street gang.  The juvenile was booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall.
The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang crimes and gun violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members residing in the city. Citizens are reminded to contact the Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witnesses to a crime.
