Hot Prowl Residential Burglary

On Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 1:56 p.m., officers responded to an in progress “hot prowl” residential burglary in the 2200 block of Sanderling Street. A female babysitter was at the residence with 3 children when a man rang the doorbell and knocked several times.  She was not expecting anyone so she took the children and went into a back bedroom.  She then heard the sounds of someone manipulating the rear sliding door, which was unlocked.  She looked into the living room and saw the man, who was then inside of the house.  She called 9-1-1 and the man fled after hearing that there was someone in the residence.  The babysitter stayed with the children until police arrived and made sure the home and surrounding area were safe.  The suspect; unknown race male, mid 20’s, 5’9”, average build with a round face, wearing all black clothing and a black hat, was not located.
The Ventura Police Department would like to remind residents to be vigilant in reporting suspicious persons and activities.  Call the Ventura Police Department Command Center at (805) 650-8010 or, in the case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity.
