Bear Valley: Fire crews worked throughout the night to contain the fire and keep it out of Bear Valley Springs. Night flying helicopter water drops were instrumental in achieving this goal. The Deer Fire has grown to approximately 1800 acres. Crews continue working to keep the fire out of the communities of Bear Valley Springs and Hart Flat. The fire is currently burning near one of the areas identified with high concentrations of tree mortality issues.
The recommended evacuation for Bear Valley Springs remains in effect for a square area with the North boundary at Medicine Bow, West boundary at end of Deer Trail with the cross of Derrick Ct., the South boundary at Greenwater Drive, and the East boundary at Territory and Jacaranda.
Currently air resources continue assisting ground crews in fighting the fire. Also direct hand-line construction, dozer lines, and progressive hose-lays are being employed to keep the fire out of the identified tree mortality areas.
