On Monday, July 4, 2016 at 9:45 a.m., an unknown suspect stole a black Thule backpack containing an Apple MacBook Air laptop computer. The stolen items were left unattended in the lobby sitting area of the Hi Ho restaurant in the City of Ojai. This establishment is equipped with a video surveillance system which captured the suspect stealing the backpack. A news story and photographs were sent out to the public requesting assistance in an attempt to identify the suspect. Numerous members of the public, including Sheriff’s personnel assigned to the Ventura County Main Jail Classification Unit visually recognized one of the parties seen in the surveillance photographs with the suspect who stole the backpack.
Based on this information, Ojai Detectives were able to identify the primary suspect as Pablo Flores, 38, of Ventura. On Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 5 p.m., Flores was contacted by Ojai Detectives at his residence in the City of Ventura. Flores confessed to the theft however, he attempted to return a different computer which was discovered to have been stolen from a residential burglary that occurred two weeks prior from a residence in the City of Ventura. During the contact with Flores, the stolen computer from Hi Ho restaurant, including the stolen backpack was recovered and subsequently returned to the owner. At this time, the Ventura residential burglary is still under investigation.
Pablo Flores was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property. Attached is a photograph of Flores.
