Highway 101 Fatal

On Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11:31 a.m., a traffic collision occurred northbound US-101 north of the Conejo Scales.
A green 2004 Saturn Vue was traveling northbound US-101 north of Conejo Scales in the number 2 lane at an unknown speed.  For reasons that are still under investigation, the driver of the Saturn made an unsafe turning movement causing him to drive off the roadway and onto the shoulder east of the roadway edge of northbound US-101 where the Saturn collided with a metal guardrail.  As a result of the collision and the driver not wearing a safety restraint, he was ejected from the Saturn through the front right passenger window and collided with an unknown object where he sustained fatal injuries.  The Saturn continued traveling in a northerly direction on the shoulder where it collided with a light pole.  After colliding with the light pole, the Saturn continued traveling in a northerly direction before coming to rest, facing in a northeasterly direction, blocking the northbound US-101 number 3 lane of 3 lanes.  The identity of the deceased will be released upon notification of next of kin by the Ventura County Examiner’s Office.
This collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark Area office.  Any possible witnesses are encouraged to contact the CHP Moorpark office at (805) 553-0800.
