On Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 7:10 p.m., Ventura City Fire crews responded to a reported traffic collision with people trapped eastbound Highway 126  at Wells Road. The first arriving engine company found a compact sedan off the roadway, upside down with major damage, two victims trapped inside, with active fire in the engine area. Hose lines were used to suppress the fire while the passenger was quickly removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital via ambulance. Due to the extent of entanglement within the wreckage, extrication of the driver required a prolonged rescue operation involving the use of several different hydraulic and electric rescue tools. After successful extrication the driver was also transported. No other injuries were reported at the time of this release.
