Bakersfield, CA. At 11:38 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls of a vegetation fire near Poso and Granite Roads. The fire started as a result of a vehicle accident. First arriving crews made it on scene approximately 10 miles from the reported location and encountered a slow-moving fire about fifty acres in size moving up the hillside, burning grass and brush. A structure protection team was dispatched to help protect homes in the area that could potentially be impacted by the fire. Both ground and air resources were ordered to simultaneous attack the blaze. More than one hundred firefighters were dispatched to battle the fire. Crews are making good progress on extinguishing the fire, but remained on scene to continue gaining containment around the fire as well as performing mop up within the areas already burned. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped.
