Bakersfield, Ca- Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016, the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire in the area of 13000 Round Mountain Road. Due to the remote location of that area, access was an issue and a full Wildland response was started. The U. S. Bureau of Land Management as well as air tankers from California South Operations were dispatched.
First Arriving crews encountered a fire in light flashy fuels. In all, 70 firefighters from Kern County and assisting agencies aggressively attacked the flames and stopped the fire’s progression at 3 acres.
Five Patrols and two type 3 engines, one helicopter, 2 hand crews, 2 battalion Chiefs, and 1 water tender supported the operations. The fire is presently 100% contained. Crews remained on scene for approximately 2 more hours for mop up. The cause of the fire is under investigation
