Thousand Oaks Jewelry Store Robbery Arrest


On Wednesday, April 12, 2016 at 1:15 p.m., deputies with the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to a call of a “Shots Fired” in the Oak Brook Shopping Plaza, specifically at Albert’s Jewelry Store.  When deputies arrived, they confirmed a robbery had occurred at Albert’s Jewelry Store and the suspect(s) had fled the scene.
The initial investigation revealed at least two suspects entered the store and one exchanged gunfire with a store employee.  The exchange of gunfire resulted in an injury to the suspect.  Through DNA evidence collected at the scene, Maurice Haley¸ 23, of Los Angeles, was identified through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) as the suspect who had been shot and injured at the scene.
Over the past few months, investigators with the Sheriff’s Major Crimes’ Bureau conducted an extensive investigation and worked in collaboration with several other law enforcement agencies throughout California and Nevada to locate Maurice Haley.  Maurice was ultimately located hiding in an apartment in northern Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 3 p.m., Haley was taken into custody without incident by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.  Haley was booked on an outstanding arrest warrant for PC 245 (a)(2) / Assault with a Deadly Weapon and PC 211 / Robbery.   His bail was set at $750,000.
Haley is a documented gang member out of Los Angeles.  Haley has prior robbery convictions in 2008 and 2010 in Los Angeles County and convictions for PC 12025(B)(4) / Prohibited person in possession of a firearm, PC 12031(A)(2)(F) – Carry / Conceal Loaded Firearm in 2011.
Over recent years, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase in the number of out of area gang members who have victimized residents in Ventura County.  Residents should know that the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office collaborates with other adjacent law enforcement agencies to investigate and solve crime.
Haley made his first appearance in Ventura Superior Court this morning.  His arraignment was continued until tomorrow, August 2, 2016, in Court room #12, at 9:00 a.m. Haley is currently still in custody.
