Serious Vehicle Collision

On Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11:37 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Teakwood Street and J Street to an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles and a motorcycle.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 white Honda Accord, driven by Addy Rafaela Toyub, 53, was traveling southbound on J Street and made a left turn onto eastbound Teakwood Street. A red 2005 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Mario Hilario Olvera Fernandez, 34, was traveling northbound on J Street towards Teakwood Street. A red 2002 GMC Yukon was parked unoccupied on the south side of Teakwood Street just east of J Street. Surveillance video from a nearby residence showed that the motorcyclist failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection of J Street and Teakwood Street and broadsided the Honda. The collision caused Fernandez to be ejected from the Yamaha.
Fernandez was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries sustained from the collision. Toyub was not injured as a result of the collision. Fernandez was wearing a full face motorcycle helmet at the time of the collision. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are factors in the collision. The roadway was closed during the on scene investigation but was reopened.
The collision is still under investigation. If anyone has information about this collision, please contact Senior Officer Maria Pena at 805-385-7750 or via email at
