On Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred involving a 1999 Toyota Camry and a 2007 Lexus IS 350 on State Route 232 (Vineyard Avenue), north of Perello Ranch Road.
A female driver, age 31, of Oxnard, was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry on southbound State Route 232 (Vineyard Avenue), north of Perello Ranch Road, along with two juvenile passengers and one child passenger. A male driver, age 24, of Bakersfield, was driving a 2007 Lexus IS 350 on northbound State Route 232 (Vineyard Avenue), north of Perello Ranch Road, along with a female passenger, age 55, of Bakersfield. For reasons that are still under investigation, the Toyota veered into the northbound lanes of State Route 232 (Vineyard Avenue) resulting in a head on collision with the Lexus sedan.
The female driver of the Toyota Camry was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire department personnel. The right front juvenile passenger of the Toyota Camry was also pronounced deceased on scene by fire department personnel. The child passenger within the Toyota Camry sustained major injuries. The other juvenile passenger within the Toyota sustained moderate injuries. Both passengers were transported to Ventura County Medical Center. The male driver of the Lexus sedan sustained major injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. The female passenger within the Lexus sustained minor injuries and was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center. State Route 232 (Vineyard Avenue) was closed for approximately four hours while the California Highway Patrol investigated the collision. The collision is still under investigation by the Ventura Area CHP Office.
