On Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 9:40 a.m., an injury traffic collision occurred on southbound Highway (State Route) 23 at Janss Road off-ramp. This collision resulted in minor injuries to a pedestrian.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) Moorpark Area Officer S. Clarkson, 39, was driving a marked black and white, 2011 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor on Highway 23 enroute to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center to follow up on an earlier collision. Christine E. Diegel, 66, of Thousand Oaks, was walking eastbound on Janss Road on the north sidewalk using the marked crosswalk. After exiting the freeway, Officer Clarskson stopped for the red light at the intersection of the Janss Road off-ramp from Highway 23 and was attempting to make a right turn (westbound) onto Janss Road. For reasons still under investigation, the front of Officer Clarkson’s patrol vehicle and Diegel made contact within the crosswalk. The collision resulted in minor injuries to Diegel. The Ventura County Sheriffs and Fire Departments responded to the scene. American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance also responded to the scene and transported Diegel to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center. Officer Clarkson did not suffer any injuries as a result of the collision. This incident resulted in the closure of the number two (right lane) lane of the Janss Road off-ramp from southbound Highway 23 for approximately one hour.
This collision remains under investigation by the CHP’s Moorpark Area office. Any witnesses are encouraged to contact the Moorpark Area office at (805) 553-0800.
