On Friday, August 12, 2016, at 12:35 a.m., an injury traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Highway (State Route) 118 and Balcom Canyon Road.
Jamie Lee Molina, 31, of Simi Valley, was driving a 2013 Chevy Cruze southbound on Balcom Canyon Road north of Highway 118 with her 6 week old infant daughter. According to witnesses, Molina was traveling at a very high rate of speed and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 118 and Balcom Canyon Road. Witnesses stated that Molina’s vehicle crossed 118, struck the metal guardrail on the south side of 118, became airborne, and landed on the south side of the railroad tracks before rolling to a stop. Molina had to be extricated by the Ventura County Fire Department and was transported to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center for her injuries. Molina’s infant daughter was also transported for precautionary reasons. An investigation was conducted and Molina was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The eastbound traffic lane of Highway 118 was blocked intermittently to allow rescue personnel to attend to Molina and her daughter. All traffic lanes were opened at approximately 1 a.m. this morning.
This traffic collision remains under investigation by the CHP’s (California Highway Patrol) Moorpark Area office. Any witnesses are encouraged to contact the CHP’s Moorpark office at (805) 553-0800.
