On Friday, August 12, 2016 at 1 p.m., Thousand Oaks Police Detectives were investigating a known suspect wanted for several counts of felony identity theft and felony domestic violence.  Detectives located suspect Joshua Richard Nation, 34, of Newbury Park, in the City of Simi Valley in the 600 block of East Los Angeles Avenue.  Detectives observed the suspect enter a silver passenger vehicle.
As a marked Ventura County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit attempted to initiate a traffic stop at E. Los Angeles Avenue and 5th Street, Nation failed to pull over his vehicle and suddenly accelerated proceeding at a high rate of speed eastbound on East Los Angeles Avenue.   Ventura County Sheriff’s marked black and white patrol units initiated a vehicle pursuit.  The suspect flagrantly failed to yield to the overhead red and blue lights and sirens and continued eastbound on Los Angeles Avenue, traveling in excess of 70 MPH.  The suspect ran two red lights at busy intersections.
A Simi Valley Police Department’s marked patrol unit observed the same vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed at E. Los Angeles Avenue at Galt Street, while observing other patrol units in pursuit. Nation continued at a high rate of speed driving through two additional red lights and nearly colliding with a vehicle passing through the intersection.  Due to Nation’s erratic driving and risk to the safety of the public, all police units discontinued pursuit of him at Sequoia Avenue.  Shortly after discontinuing the pursuit, Simi Valley Police discovered the silver vehicle had collided with a cinder block wall on Barnes Street just south of E. Los Angeles Avenue. Witnesses reported Nation ran away from the accident scene and into the backyard of a residence in the 3600 block of Semple Street in Simi Valley. A Sheriff’s helicopter and two Simi Valley Police canine handlers responded. Nation was located hiding in the locked rear patio area of a residence and was taken into custody.  Nation was arrested and later booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for felony evading, hit and run, identity theft and domestic violence.
