Ridgecrest, CA. Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, the Kern County Fire Department received a report of a tree on fire in the alley in the 300 block of Helena Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found multiple structures on fire. A reinforced structure response was initiated.
High winds and downed power lines hampered firefighting efforts. An aggressive attack was made to extinguish the fires and protect exposures. Crews were able to get a knockdown on the fires in approximately forty five minutes. Crews remained on scene to mop up, check for extension and investigate the cause. Loss to the structures was estimated to be approximately $80,000 with approximately $625,000-worth saved. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
