Highway 101 Fatal


On Friday, March 4, 2016 around 6:58 p.m., a fatality traffic collision occurred in the City of Thousand Oaks on Highway 101southbound, just north of Westlake Boulevard.
The motorcycle rider, 22 years old, of Santa Barbara, was riding a 2015 Kawasaki southbound on 101, splitting the number 2 and 3 lanes. Marika Tron, 18 years old of Camarillo, was driving a 2009 Lexus southbound on 101, in the number 3 lane ahead of the motorcycle rider. Anand Raghavan, 37 years old of Irvine, was driving a 2013 Mini Cooper southbound on 101, in the number 1 lane.  A juvenile female, 17 years old of Thousand Oaks, was driving a 2004 Infiniti southbound on 101 in the number 1 lane.  The motorcycle rider made an unsafe lane change into the number 2 lane at a high rate of speed as Tron was making a lane change into the number 2 lane.  The motorcycle clipped the left side of the Lexus which caused the motorcycle rider to be ejected onto the number 1 lane, directly in front of the Mini Cooper. Raghavan applied the brakes but was unable to stop in time. The Mini Cooper ran over the motorcycle rider.  The driver of the Infiniti who was directly behind the Mini Cooper applied the brakes to the Infiniti. The front of the Infiniti hit the rear of the Mini Cooper, the motorcycle rider became lodged under the Infiniti.  The motorcycle rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident resulted in the closure of the 1 and 2 lanes of 101 southbound just north of Westlake Boulevard for approximately 3.5 hours.  Department of Transportation, Caltrans responded to the scene for traffic control.
